Use Home
Start from Home to reopen recent work, check today’s items, review mentions, and find people.
Home is the daily starting point for work that needs attention
Use Home when you are opening ALLO and need to answer the practical question: what should I look at now? Home brings together recent work, today's items, direct mentions, a compact activity preview, quick actions, and People shortcuts so you do not have to start every session from search or a project list.
Home is intentionally a starting point. It is not the full notification center, full activity feed, full file browser, or full member management area. It shows enough context to help you decide where to go next, then sends you to the right ALLO surface for deeper work.
Availability
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Available on | All plans |
| Available for | Web app, desktop app |
| Who can do it | All workspace users |
Where to find Home
Open ALLO, choose the correct workspace, then select Home from the workspace navigation. If you are already inside a canvas, project, file, or another area, use the main navigation to return to Home.
Home is workspace-aware. Switching workspaces changes the recent work, mentions, activity, People results, and available actions you see.
What Home shows
| Area | What it gives you | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Quick actions | Shortcuts for Blank canvas, Import, Templates, and Files. | Starting work without opening a separate menu first. |
| Recent | A compact list of canvases, projects, goals, and other work you opened recently. | Reopening something you already touched. |
| Today | A summary of calendar-linked or date-sensitive work for today. | Morning check-ins and meeting prep before opening a full schedule. |
| Mentions | Direct mentions that need your attention. | Replying to comments or discussions in the original context. |
| Activity | A short preview of recent workspace changes. | Catching up after time away and opening changed work. |
| People | Shortcuts to Members, Teams, and Org chart. | Finding teammates and understanding workspace structure. |
A good daily workflow
- Confirm you are in the correct workspace.
- Scan Recent for the canvas, project, or goal you were already using.
- Check Today for time-sensitive work before meetings.
- Open Mentions when someone needs a direct response from you.
- Use Activity to see what changed while you were away.
- Use Quick actions when you need to start a blank canvas, import material, open templates, or browse Files.
- Use People when the next step depends on finding the right member or team.
If you know the exact name of what you need, use Global search instead of scanning Home. Home is excellent for recent and attention-based work; search is better when you have a title, keyword, or person in mind.
What Home is not
Home previews several systems, but it does not replace their full pages.
| If you need | Go to |
|---|---|
| Every notification, request, reminder, or mention | Inbox. |
| A complete workspace canvas list with filters and sorting | All canvases. |
| A full file directory with preview, download, and filters | Files. |
| Detailed workspace activity | Activity. |
| Member roles, deactivation, or admin changes | Workspace members. |
| Deleted work recovery | Trash. |
This split keeps Home useful for daily triage. When you need full control, move from Home into the focused area.
Common scenarios
If you are returning after a meeting, open Home and start with Recent. If the canvas is missing, use Global search or All canvases.
If someone asked you a question in a comment, open Mentions. Select the mention to open the original work item and reply there so the answer stays attached to the work.
If you are preparing for a daily standup, scan Today, Activity, and Recent. Today shows work connected to today's schedule; Activity shows recent changes; Recent gets you back to the items you already opened.
If you need to find the right teammate, open People from Home. Use Members when you know the person, Teams when you know the group, and Org chart when you need broader context.
Permissions and visibility
Home only shows work your account can access in the selected workspace. A missing card can mean the item is in another workspace, you no longer have permission, the item was deleted, or the preview simply does not include enough history. Use the full area before assuming the work is gone.
Some actions are role-gated. For example, member invite or management actions may be hidden if your workspace role does not allow them. That does not mean People is broken. It means viewing the directory and managing access are separate permissions.
Mistakes and recovery
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Home looks empty | Check Switch workspaces, refresh the page, then try Global search. New or quiet workspaces can have little to preview. |
| A recent item is missing | Open All canvases, Files, or search by title. Recent is a shortcut, not a complete archive. |
| A mention does not open | The original work may have been deleted, moved, or unshared. Check Inbox and ask the owner to review access. |
| Today is empty | There may be no calendar-linked work for today, or the work may belong to another workspace. Check Workspace Calendar or the relevant Project Calendar. |
| Activity is too brief | Open Activity for the larger view. |
| People actions are hidden | Ask a workspace admin to check your role in Workspace members. |
