The org chart gives a visual map when lists are not enough
Use the org chart when a member list or team list does not give enough context. It is part of People under Home, and it helps you understand how people are arranged before you route work, ask for approval, or find the right reviewer.
The org chart is for orientation. Use Members when you need search and person details. Use Teams when you need group membership. Use Workspace members when an admin needs to change access.
Availability
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Available on | Plans where People and org chart are available |
| Available for | Web app, desktop app |
| Who can do it | Workspace members with access to People |
Where to find the org chart
Open Home → People → Org chart.
If the Org chart option is not available, use Members and Teams. Some workspaces do not have enough people data or feature availability to show a useful chart.
When to use the org chart
| Situation | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| You are new to a workspace | See how people are arranged. |
| You need the right reviewer | Understand team relationships before mentioning someone. |
| You are checking team structure | Compare the org chart with Teams and Members. |
| You are escalating a decision | Identify who may own the next approval path. |
| You inherited work from another team | See where the work may belong before asking in the wrong place. |
Use the org chart effectively
- Open Home → People → Org chart.
- Confirm you are in the correct workspace.
- Scan the visible structure before choosing a person.
- Open member details when you need email, role, or team context.
- Use Teams if you need a group list rather than a visual hierarchy.
- Use Manage teams or Manage workspace members for admin changes.
The org chart is best for direction. It is not built for exact search, filters, pagination, or permission controls.
Examples
| Situation | How the org chart helps |
|---|---|
| You joined a new workspace | Build a mental map of teams and relationships before asking for help. |
| You need approval | Understand who may be connected to the decision path before mentioning someone. |
| A project has unclear ownership | Use the chart with Teams and Members to find a likely owner. |
| You are planning a handoff | See where the receiving person sits before assigning or sharing work. |
| The chart looks incomplete | Treat it as a starting point, then verify in Members and Teams. |
Permissions and data limits
The org chart only reflects people data available to your workspace and account. It can be incomplete if profile, team, manager, or organization data has not been set up, or unavailable if the workspace does not support the org chart view.
An incomplete chart does not always mean a person is missing from the workspace. Check Members first, then ask an admin to review workspace data or team setup.
Org chart versus other People views
| Need | Use |
|---|---|
| Search by name or email | Members. |
| Browse groups and membership | Teams. |
| Understand structure visually | Org chart. |
| Invite people or change roles | Manage workspace members. |
| Create or edit teams | Manage teams. |
Support questions and recovery
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Org chart is empty | Use Members and Teams, then ask an admin whether org data is available for the workspace. |
| Someone is missing from the chart | Search Members before assuming they are not in the workspace. |
| The structure looks wrong | Check Teams and ask an admin to review team or member data. |
| You cannot open member details | Confirm your workspace access and try Members. |
| You need to change reporting or team setup | Use Manage teams or Manage workspace members. |
Support questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is the org chart the source of truth for permissions? | No. Use Roles and access and workspace management for permissions. |
| Why is the chart different from a team list? | Teams and org structure answer different questions. Teams show groups; org chart shows a visual relationship map when data exists. |
| Can I use the chart to invite someone? | Use Invite workspace members or workspace management for invites. |
| What should I do if the chart is blank? | Use Members and Teams, then ask an admin whether org chart data is configured for the workspace. |
