Manage notifications
Control which updates reach you and how loudly, without losing anything from your Inbox.
Keep the Inbox, choose the interruptions
The Inbox is ALLO's in-product record of work that needs your attention. Email, Desktop notifications, and mobile push are extra delivery channels. Turning one of those channels off does not remove its corresponding Inbox item.
ALLO web does not send browser notifications or operating-system alerts. There is no browser permission, site setting, or lock-menu setting to enable. Web users see updates inside ALLO and receive supported notification emails.
If you want macOS or Windows banners and sounds, Download ALLO and use the Desktop app. On macOS, Desktop can also show the active Inbox count on the ALLO Dock icon. Native computer notifications require ALLO Desktop and permission for ALLO in the operating system.
Open your notification preferences
- Select your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select My profile.
- Open Notifications.
The page separates Push notification settings from Email notifications. These are personal preferences. They change how updates reach you, not whether you can open the original work.
Choose each channel by the job it does
| Channel | What it delivers | What controls it |
|---|---|---|
| Inbox | Mentions, thread activity, reminders, assignments, progress updates, invitations, access requests, and other supported ALLO events inside the product. | Inbox rows are not disabled from notification preferences. Complete or snooze items from Inbox instead. |
| Supported copies of selected Inbox activity. | The email switches in Notifications, plus mail filtering outside ALLO. | |
| Desktop banners and sounds | Native macOS or Windows alerts while ALLO Desktop is running and signed in. | Push notifications in ALLO and the operating system's ALLO notification permission. |
| macOS Dock badge | The active Inbox count on the ALLO Dock icon. | ALLO Desktop on macOS, the current Inbox count, and macOS permission for ALLO badges. |
| Mobile push | Native iOS or Android alerts. | Push notifications in ALLO, the mobile app's device permission, and the device's focus settings. |
The browser is deliberately absent from that table. Browser-native notifications are not an ALLO channel.
Choose which emails are worth sending
Email switches are available for:
- Mentions
- Related Activity on items you participate in
- Due date reminders
- Progress updates
- Check-in reminders
- Owner assignments
Weekly reports is visible as Coming soon and cannot be enabled yet.
New live email preferences default to on until you save a different choice. If the Inbox is useful but your mailbox is noisy, turn off the email categories you do not need. The work remains in Inbox.
Understand mentions and thread activity
An explicit @ mention is different from a reply to a thread you already joined. Direct mentions appear in mention-focused Inbox and Home views. A reply can reactivate the thread in Inbox for participants without treating every participant as directly mentioned.
Mention email is scheduled one minute after the Inbox event. The Inbox item and its count update first. This short delay groups repeated activity on the same Inbox row before email is sent.
Diagnose the channel that failed
The Inbox item exists, but email is missing. The ALLO event was created. Check the relevant email switch, your account email, spam, company quarantine, and mail rules.
The Inbox item exists, but no macOS or Windows banner or sound appears, or the macOS Dock badge is missing. Do not change browser settings. Confirm that you are using ALLO Desktop, then follow Desktop notification and badge checks.
The Inbox item exists, but mobile push is missing. Confirm Push notifications is on, then check ALLO's notification permission in iOS or Android and the device's focus mode. Use Troubleshoot the mobile app if the app itself is not behaving normally.
No Inbox item exists. Check that the sender selected your account in the mention picker, that you still have access to the work, and that the original thread or object still exists. Notification permissions cannot create a missing Inbox event.
An invitation email is missing. Invitations use their own delivery flow. Follow When an invite does not arrive.
If a notification opens work you can no longer access, use When you cannot access work. If you contact support, include the notification type, workspace, approximate time, account email, device, and which of Inbox, email, Desktop alert, or mobile push appeared.
